RIESLING & PINOT NOIR FROM THE TERRASSENMOSEL
After studies of viticulture alongside stages in Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Baden, Oregon and Burgundy, I decided to return to my home in the Terrassenmosel in order to cultivate Riesling and Pinot Noir.

VITICULTURE AT ITS LIMITS
Admittedly, there are many places where it is easier to grow wine than in the Terrassenmosel. Hardly any technical aids, more stone than soil and low yields that we extract from the mountain year after year by hand - it is one of the most extreme wine regions in the world.
But these medieval slate terraces around the village of Winningen are the source of unique terroir wines with great expression and mineralic tension – grown between hot slate and our northern cool climate.

PINOT NOIR SINCE 1986
What my father Reiner recognized in 1986 and put into practice with the first plantings of Pinot Noir now forms the foundation of our red wine culture.
Inspired by my travels in the world of wine, I now lead this family passion into the next generation.

MOSELLE IN RED
It has always been my deep conviction that great Pinot Noirs are not defined by pure concentration and opulence, but rather by elegance and complexity.
Early harvesting, gentle extraction and a varying amount of whole bunches in the fermentation produce elegant Pinots with delicate fruit and silky tannins. Just like Riesling, Pinot Noir is also able to translate the unique spice and minerality of our slate soil into the glass.

RIESLING IS TRADITION
The focus on traditional craftsmanship also extends from the vineyard to the cellar when it comes to Riesling. No use of any fining, fermentation in wooden barrels and a long time to mature on the lees preserves the character of our “grand crus” from the terraces of Winninger Uhlen and Winninger Röttgen.
